Pet Carrier Backpack Case Study: From a Small Test Order to 300 Custom Units

This project started with a simple problem: a U.S. customer had found a pet carrier backpack they wanted to sell, but they did not work in the bag industry and were unsure how to judge the construction, confirm measurements or choose a practical logo method.

They also wanted to begin with a small quantity. Instead of pushing them toward a large custom order, we helped them work through the details step by step.

Starting with the existing pet backpack

The customer first ordered a small quantity of the existing model in several colors and sizes. At this stage, the goal was not to redesign the bag. It was to check whether the product suited their market and whether their customers responded well to it.

Because the buyer was new to pet bags, many questions came up about size, structure and daily use. We measured the bag again, photographed the details and explained the parts that were difficult to understand from a normal product listing. This included the main pet compartment, side panels, fastening straps, zippers and the padded back and shoulder system.

A 100-piece order with a practical logo solution

After the first units sold, the customer wanted to increase the quantity and add their own logo. The order was still only 100 pieces, which was too small for some branding methods.

For this stage, we recommended heat-transfer printing. It allowed the customer to add a clear logo without committing to the higher minimum normally required for screen printing. We confirmed the logo position and workable print size before production rather than asking the buyer to decide the technical details alone.

Changing to screen printing when the order reached 300 pieces

The product continued to sell and the next order increased to 300 pieces. At that quantity, the branding plan could be reconsidered. We changed the logo process from heat transfer to screen printing because it was now practical for the order size and better suited to repeated production.

The product construction remained consistent while the logo method changed with the customer’s volume. The customer did not have to redesign the bag or learn every production term before placing the order.

What we solved during the project

  • Answered product and construction questions for a buyer without bag-industry experience.
  • Rechecked dimensions and supplied close-up photos instead of relying only on catalogue information.
  • Supported an initial low-risk test with an existing model.
